TAKE THE KING'S SHILLING!
Text Box: Cartridge Box

Marines carried a black leather cartridge box on a separate white leather shoulder belt. The purpose of the cartridge box was to carry the ammunition cartridges and protect them from the rain. The cartridges were kept in holes drilled into a wooden block within the cartridge box. It is uncertain whether Marine cartridge boxes carried distinct brass badges, like many Army regiments.
